Donna Kelce seems to be sworn to secrecy when it comes to her son, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift.
During an appearance on “Today” Friday, Donna played coy when hosts Yoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie tried to dig for details on the rumored romance between the NFL star and 12-time Grammy winner.
“Yeah, it’s fairly new so I don’t like to talk about it,” Donna said with a smile, before she recalled her time hanging out with Swift at the last two Chiefs games.
“But it’s just one of this things where everybody saw me. I was in the box with her and it’s just another thing that’s amped up my life.
“It was OK.”
That’s when Guthrie asked Donna if she was warned by her son not to “spill the beans” during her “Today” appearance.
“It’s not so much a warning,” Donna said. “It’s his personal life. I’ll talk about my life … but they’re men now, and they’ve got their own lives.
“There isn’t a man alive that’s going to talk to their mom about their personal life,” she said, laughing.
Donna played coy when asked if there is a budding romance between Kelce and Swift.
“I honestly can’t tell you,” she said. “It’s too new. I can’t tell you.”
Afterward, the “Today” show anchors discussed how they “had to ask” Donna about the Swift-Kelce craze.
“Tight-lipped,” Carson Daly said, adding that Donna was “loyal to the boys.”
Donna walked out to Taylor Swift’s “Welcome to New York” song, and brought the “Today” show anchors containers of cookies.
It was reminiscent of when she was brought cookies to the Super Bowl in February when Travis’ Chiefs beat brother Jason Kelce’s Eagles.
Donna previously weighed in on the “Got It From My Momma” podcast about the NFL capitalizing on her son’s high-profile relationship.
“The NFL is laughing all the way to the bank,” Donna said on Friday. “Good for them. They’re getting the ramifications of everything.”
The Kelce matriarch also explained that the league is very pleased with her family.
“I can tell you this, that they’ve told me personally that the Kelce family has done more good PR for football than they could’ve paid a million dollars to a PR firm,” Donna said.
“It’s just because we’re relatable. We’re just normal. We’re genuine. We’re authentic, and we don’t put any airs on or try to be someone that we’re not.”
As for Travis?
“They are overdoing it a bit for sure, especially my situation,” Travis said on their “New Heights” podcast when asked by Jason about the NFL ‘s heightened attention. “They’re just trying to have fun with it.”
It’s unclear if Donna and Swift will the Chiefs’ game at Minnesota on Sunday.
