The Post’s college football rankings, Heisman watch following Week 6

The Post’s college football rankings following Week 6.

Top 10

1. Georgia (5-0) (Last week: 1)

Let’s call it the Zach to School reverse jinx. The week after I questioned Georgia, the Bulldogs made an emphatic statement with a 51-13 walloping of Kentucky.

2. Florida State (5-0) (2)

Florida State is 5-0 for the first time in eight years and will be significant favorites in every regular-season game the rest of the way. Mike Norvell was the right hire.

3. Oklahoma (6-0) (NR)

A major Big 12 program is back, but it’s not Texas. Oklahoma returned to national contention with its dramatic Red River Rivalry win over the Longhorns. It was arguably the most impressive win of the season for any program this year, and puts Oklahoma in the driver’s seat to win the Big 12.

4. Ohio State (5-0) (3)

Marvin Harrison Jr.’s sprained ankle looks all but healed now, after he went for season highs of eight catches and 163 yards in a come-from-behind rout of Maryland.

5. Michigan (6-0) (5)

Another blowout over another underwhelming opponent. Rinse and repeat.

6. Penn State (5-0) (6)

One more cupcake until we start to get a real read on Penn State. James Franklin could play the scout team against 1-6 UMass and not sweat.

7. Washington (5-0) (7)

All eyes will be on Seattle on Saturday afternoon in Washington’s top-10 showdown against Oregon. The winner immediately emerges as the favorite to snap the Pac-12’s College Football Playoff drought.

8. Oregon (5-0) (9)

The Ducks are allowing just 11.8 points per game, tied for the fifth fewest in the country. But they haven’t seen an offense anything like Washington’s. This will be revealing.

9. Alabama (5-1) (10)

The Crimson Tide are allowing only 12.5 points per game in their current four-game winning streak, a major factor — along with the improved play of quarterback Jalen Milroe — in their recent turnaround.

10. USC (6-0) (8)

The Trojans should send Arizona coach Jedd Fisch a gift basket. They showed no indications of being able to stop the Wildcats, yet Fisch still got conservative on a few huge plays late, costing his team a chance at pulling the upset.

Dropped out: Texas (5-1)

Heisman Watch (in alphabetical order)

TE Brock Bowers, Georgia: That’s now three straight games with at least 100 yards and a touchdown for the best tight end in the country. With 545 yards receiving already this season, Bowers is on pace to crush the Georgia receiving record of 1,004 set by Terrence Edwards in 2002.

QB Bo Nix, Oregon: A fellow Heisman contender will be across the field in the country’s premier game. Opportunity is knocking for Nix.

QB Michael Penix Jr., Washington: Oregon allows the fifth-fewest passing yards per game (153.6). Penix and the Huskies produce the most (446.4). This will be fun.

QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado: Sanders was seen talking trash to 1-5 Arizona State’s student section after a narrow victory. Lame.

QB Caleb Williams, USC:The Trojans’ defense has upped the difficulty level so far for Williams. He has yet to blink, ensuring USC remains undefeated with his legs and big right arm. Saturday night, he equaled a career-high with three rushing touchdowns in a triple-overtime thriller against Arizona.
