Stanford vs. Colorado Pick
Following a victory that broke a two-game losing streak, Colorado is set to maintain its winning momentum by hosting Stanford at Folsom Field in Boulder on Friday evening. This matchup appears to present significant challenges for Stanford, arriving with one of the nation’s weakest defenses.
Although Colorado’s once high-flying offense has seen a decline in its statistical performance in recent weeks, it still ranks 28th in the FBS in terms of offense, as per PFF. Despite facing the fourth-toughest schedule in the FBS this season, I believe that Colorado’s potential has been underestimated and can be displayed against a struggling opponent.
The Buffaloes are led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who spearheads their pass-heavy approach, ranking eighth in the nation with an average of 337.2 passing yards per game. Their up-tempo offense primarily relies on passing, accounting for 69.2% of plays, and boasts an impressive EPA of 0.16 on passing attempts.
Stanford is expected to face significant difficulties in containing Colorado’s formidable passing game. Over five games this season, the Cardinal’s defense has allowed an average of 34.6 points per game, ranking 123rd in the FBS. Their pass defense ranks even lower, at 130th in the nation, surrendering 305.8 yards per game.
Although Stanford is coming off a bye week and may have a solid game plan, it is unlikely to match Colorado’s offensive output. The Cardinal are tied for 119th in scoring offense, averaging just 19.2 points per game, which won’t be sufficient to keep pace with the Buffaloes, even if they reduce Colorado’s offensive production.
In a promising development, two-way star Travis Hunter is expected to return for this matchup after suffering a lacerated liver in Week 3 against Colorado State. His impact should be immediate.
This matchup strongly favors Colorado’s passing attack, making it advisable to support the Buffaloes even when laying the odds at high altitude, as they are likely to secure a comfortable victory.
Pick: Colorado -11.5
