Jayson Tatum shades new Celtics teammate Jrue Holiday’s age

Jayson Tatum wasn’t holding anything back with his newest teammate in their first game together.

In a mic’d up moment caught by ESPN, the Celtics star was threw some shade at Jrue Holiday before their opening night matchup with the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

“You played against T-Mac [Tracy McGrady]?” the 25-year-old Tatum asked the 33-year-old Holiday, who shook his head yes that he did indeed play with the seven-time NBA All-Star.

“So you played against T-Mac and you play with me. You old.”

Ouch.

Holiday entered the league as a 19-year-old in 2009-10, which was in the twilight of McGrady’s career.

McGrady last played in the NBA in the 2011-12 season, and Holiday now enters his 15th season in the league.

In a whirlwind offseason for both the Celtics and Holiday — that had plenty of moving parts — the two-time All-Star finally wound up in Boston after a blockbuster Oct. 1 trade with the Trail Blazers.

A five-time All-Defensive team selection, Holiday had one of his best years on the offensive end last year, averaging 19.3 points and 7.4 assists per game.

Before the trade, Holiday expressed his interest in signing a long-term extension with the Bucks, but that did not come to fruition.

“The fans are literally insane, and I’m proud to be a part of that,” Holiday said after the trade to Boston, per the Associated Press. “I know a lot of my family’s probably hurt, but I know this is a blue-collar town. They love people that work hard and they put their heart into it. And that’s just the type of person that I am, is every time I step on to the court, I give them everything.”

Tatum scored a game-high 34 points on 13-of-22 shooting and had a team-best 11 rebounds Wednesday while Holiday chipped in with nine points in his Celtics regular-season debut as Boston beat the Knicks, 108-104.
