Stephen A. Smith got a little too distracted by his own wardrobe to come up with an NFC Super Bowl contender on the spot.
On Thursday’s edition of “First Take,” the group, including Smith, Damien Woody and Kimberley Martin, was going around and picking who they think will represent the NFC in the Big Game in February.
Woody and Martin both picked the Eagles, and Smith said he was going to pick them, but he’s had “trepidation” about sticking with them in recent weeks.
Host Molly Qerim pressed Smith for an answer as to who he would pick, but he wasn’t in the right mindset to go there.
“Thanks for educating us on TV. Maybe you could let us know when the show ends,” she laughed.
Smith admitted his mind was on other topics.
“You know, I have to admit to you, I’m pretty focused on how good I’m looking,” he said.
Martin and Woody told him his suit looked nice, and Qerim asked to see his pocket square.
“I’m a bit distracted by how smooth I’m looking, and it just shows the hatred because you [Qerim] won’t give me love,” he said.
Qerim asked him to “stop talking” so she could pay him a compliment, and he responded, “If you tell me to stop talking one more time, I’m gonna wait till you pick up the phone to call me and watch what I do, as much as you talk. It’s gonna be aight.”
Qerim defended herself, saying that sometimes show issues need to be “addressed immediately,” and Smith called BS, asking her if it’s true that she calls him “just to vent.”
The banter was lighthearted, but one suspects Smith will wait for the right moment privately to remind Qerim the next time she calls him about any topics that aren’t strictly pertinent to the TV show.
