Several generations of the American public have become accustomed to Samuel L. Jackson yelling in movies, but it’s a new wrinkle to see him get wrapped up in sports losses.
Jackson watched on in apparent disgust as the Packers defeated the Rams 20-3 in a game at Lambeau Field on Sunday that featured sloppy play on both sides and fewer than 200 yards of total offense for the Rams, with quarterback Brett Rypien starting in place of an injured Matthew Stafford.
“At what point do we start the Rams coaching conversation??!!” Jackson asked on X on Sunday.
If it seems like this came out of nowhere, it indeed appears to have been the 74-year-old Jackson’s first tweet ever about the Rams.
The Rams fell to 3-6 on the season, after going 5-12 last year in their Super Bowl championship defense.
Head coach Sean McVay flirted with the idea of stepping down after last season, but opted to return.
He is under contract with the Rams through 2026.
McVay has a 63-44 record with the Rams since becoming head coach in 2017, and won the aforementioned Super Bowl 2022, plus an additional NFC conference championship, in 2018-19.
Rypien filled in for Stafford on Sunday after the starter suffered a thumb injury in last week’s loss to the Cowboys.
While Rypien completed under half his passes and threw for just 4.6 yards per attempt, McVay told reporters after the game that there was plenty of blame to go around.
“I think there were some instances where we can play better around him,” McVay said.
“Offensively, it’s hard to really say there was anything you could take away as a positive from today,” he added. “That’s where the real humbling part comes in.”
McVay’s wife, Veronika Khomyn, recently gave birth to the couple’s first child, a boy, Jordan John McVay.
