The path back to the NFL for Martavis Bryant will begin in Dallas.
Bryant agreed to a terms and is expected to join the Cowboys’ practice squad after he was reinstated by the NFL after an indefinite suspension from 2018, the team announced Tuesday.
The move came after Bryant, 31, worked out for the team earlier Tuesday and then met with the coaching staff.
His first official practice with an NFL team since 2018 will take place Wednesday.
Cowboys COO and executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed on Monday that Bryant would work out for the team.
“He’s a guy that’s a big, strong, fast receiver that we’ll certainly take a look at,” Jones said during a hit on 105.3 The Fan.
Bryant is back in the league after commissioner Roger Goodell formally reinstated him Saturday after being suspended indefinitely in 2018 after multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.
The NFL handed down the punishment in December 2018 after Bryant had violated the terms of a conditional reinstatement stemming from a prior 2016 suspension.
Bryant was picked in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Steelers and, at times, he looked like one of the most promising young receivers in the game.
During his rookie season, Bryant recorded 26 receptions for 549 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games.
He then had 50 catches for 765 yards in 2015 before being suspended for the entirety of the 2016 season.
Bryant played one more year in a diminished role in Pittsburgh in 2017 before the Steelers traded him to Oakland in 2018, where he was eventually suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
Bryant had stints with several other leagues during the course of his suspension from the NFL, with stops in the Canadian Football League, XFL, Fan Controlled Football League and Indoor Football League.
