One Giants great is feeling Taylor Swift fatigue.
Swift was front and center once again on Sunday, with CBS not being shy about showing the pop star during its broadcast of the Chiefs’ divisional round win over the Bills on Sunday, during which Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce scored two touchdowns.
Broadcasts have been showing Swift watching Kelce from a suite since she first appeared at a Chiefs game on Sept. 24, but Tiki Barber has finally had enough after four months.
“He scores a touchdown, and they pan immediately to Taylor Swift!” Barber griped during WFAN’s “Evan & Tiki” on Monday. “Again? It’s not even Travis Kelce. Maybe it’s the Taylor Swift influence that has made me — I don’t want to say turn sour — but just be slightly annoyed with the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s also because they’re always here. After you’ve been somewhere for so long and have had the success they’ve had, it becomes inevitable.
“Why are you guys continuing to show Taylor Swift? The obsession is getting annoying. Why do we need to see her?”
Swift, who was booed by Bills fans entering the stadium, was actually somewhat overshadowed on Sunday by Kelce’s brother Jason, the potentially retiring Eagles center who was screaming and drinking beer shirtless in frigid Orchard Park, getting love from CBS and fans online throughout the game.
The constant attention Swift has garnered throughout the NFL season has been polarizing.
As Swifties flocked to their televisions to watch the Chiefs, others like Barber have been put off by the commotion, and some have even wondered if Swift was having a negative impact on Kelce and Kansas City.
After the Chiefs began the season 6-1, they lost five of their next eight games while the offense went through a rough patch, with the scrutiny on Kelce growing in particular.
Kelce still earned his ninth straight Pro Bowl nod, but his 10.6 yards per catch was a career-low and his streak of seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons was snapped; he decided against playing in the Chiefs’ meaningless season finale to chase the milestone.
But so far in these NFL playoffs, the Chiefs have done what they’ve done ever since Patrick Mahomes took over as the starter in 2018-19, reaching the AFC Championship game for the sixth straight season despite playing their first road playoff game in the Mahomes era.
All eyes will be on Swift again this Sunday when the Chiefs travel to face the Ravens for the right to play in Super Bowl 2024.
It’s unclear if Swift would be able to attend Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas on Feb. 11 if the Chiefs make it.
She’s resuming her Eras Tour on Feb. 7 with a four-day stint at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
Swift doesn’t have a show the day of the Super Bowl, but begins a swing through Australia on Feb. 16.
