LeBron James’ newest alter ego is LeGambler – as he announced that he has signed on as a partner for DraftKings Sportsbook.
As a result of the multi-year deal, James will be giving his NFL picks, focusing on football only, as NBA betting is not allowed to be even discussed by players or coaches.
“LeBron will help support key football initiatives and tentpole events through content creation, such as weekly football picks and more,” DraftKings said, according to a press release.
James teased this earlier in the football season, giving NFL picks on Instagram Live.
“Y’all know I love football,” James said prior to giving out his Week 4 NFL picks. “With that said I’m thinking about doing my picks of the week (NFL games) tomorrow on IG live before they start. I did pick Detroit over GB TNF. Anyways, we’ll see.”
James likely received a sizeable deal from the gambling giant as the sportsbook attempts to gain further market share in the sports betting world.
The announcement comes as DraftKings prepares massive amounts of spending in the marketing department as it looks to continue gaining market share and betting exposure.
DraftKings is rumored to have a deal with Barstool Sports worth at least $10 million a year to Dave Portnoy’s controversial media conglomerate.
Many have called the deal a steal for DraftKings and a direct attack on ESPN BET and its core clientele. The addition of James will have an obvious pull in the NBA market, and his NFL picks will give a further boost to the sportsbooks’ battle with FanDuel.
Eilers and Krejcik, a gambling research firm, reported that ESPN BET had taken some market share away from gambling casino giants MGM and Caesars.
James has 235.6 million followers across all social media platforms in aggregate per Basketball Network and is one of the biggest stars in the sports world.
