A new name has emerged in the Giants’ defensive coordinator search.
Vikings defensive pass game coordinator Daronte Jones recently interviewed for the vacant position, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The sitdown between the Giants and Jones took place last week in Mobile, Alabama during the Senior Bowl and Jones made a strong impression there as the National team’s defensive coordinator, according to the report.
Jones has been on the Vikings coaching staff since 2022 when he started as the team’s defensive backs coach.
Before working with the Vikings, he was at the University of Minnesota as the college program’s defensive backs coach in 2020 and then left to take a defensive coordinator position at LSU in 2021, where he spent one season.
He’s had coaching jobs with the Dolphins and Bengals.
Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson, Chiefs linebackers coach Brendan Daly and several other candidates have interviewed for the Giants defensive coordinator position since they parted ways with Wink Martindale.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen said last week at the Senior Bowl that he and coach Brian Daboll hoped to have the search done “by the end of the week,” but that hasn’t been the case.
