Super Bowl staff predictions
MARK CANNIZZARO: Chiefs 37, 49ers 34
It makes little sense that the 49ers are favored in this game despite being as good as they are with as much talent as they have.
Because the Chiefs are defending champions and have the more accomplished head coach and quarterback in Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, Brock Purdy won’t disappoint, but the Chiefs win in an epic shootout for a third title in five years. Let the “dynasty’’ talk begin.
BRIAN COSTELLO: Chiefs 24, 49ers 17
The Chiefs have the best quarterback on Earth, and that is a good start, but they also have a defense that has been playing well all season. Patrick Mahomes probably will end up being MVP, but I think Steve Spagnuolo also might have a case by the end of this one.
RYAN DUNLEAVY: Chiefs 28, 49ers 24
Patrick Mahomes has led fourth-quarter comebacks in both of his Super Bowls and will have to do it again. No problem when Travis Kelce is playing his best ball of the season. Look for the young and dominant Chiefs defense to get a key late stop.
PAUL SCHWARTZ: 49ers 27, Chiefs 23
Man for man, starter vs. starter, the Niners have the better roster. The Chiefs, though, have Patrick Mahomes and pick against him at your own peril. Heck, we’re in Vegas, where taking risks is part of the deal. How about Christian McCaffrey for MVP?
STEVE SERBY: 49ers 24, Chiefs 21
There is a reason why Vegas oddsmakers have made the Brock Purdys a favorite over Patrick Mahomes, and in my view, it is because they have more difference-making game-changers on both sides of the ball. Don’t blame Taylor Swift.

MIKE VACCARO: Chiefs 28, 49ers 24
Look for this game to be a replay of the two championship games: Chiefs jump out big early, 49ers fight back late. But Andy Reid won’t be in as giving a mood as Dan Campbell was, and Patrick Mahomes won’t be denied once he starts smelling ring No. 3.
