After spending two years as the voice of Notre Dame football on NBC, Jac Collinsworth is getting ousted from the spot, according to a report by The Athletic on Thursday.
Dan Hicks will take over for Collinsworth and call Fighting Irish football games alongside Jason Garrett.
Hicks previously called Notre Dame football on the network but has more recently been the lead voice for NBC’s golf coverage.
The 29-year-old Collinsworth, the son of “Sunday Night Football” analyst Cris Collinsworth, will continue to call college football and basketball games on NBC’s streaming service Peacock and remain a reporter for “Football Night in America” the Olympics, according to The Athletic.
Taking over two years ago at just 27 years old, the younger Collinsworth received plenty of criticism for his play-by-play during the last two seasons from fans and media alike.
As for the rest of NBC’s college football coverage, Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge are expected to become the network’s No.1 announcing team.
They will primarily call Big Ten games but also will be in the booth for any Notre Dame game that NBC believes to be more enticing than their best Big Ten game.
In November, Notre Dame announced the extension of its media deal with NBC and Peacock that will keep football games on the network through 2029.
NBC will have rights to eight Notre Dame games this upcoming season, including their Blue-Gold spring game on April 20, which will be broadcast on Peacock.
“Well one of the great things the extension with NBC that we’re announcing today is it helps ensure our independence,” athletic director Jack Swarbrick said when the deal became official. “And that is so important to us because it’s the independence platform that allows us to do the unique things we do at Notre Dame athletics.”
For the on-the-field product, the Irish are coming off a 10-3 season in which they trounced Oregon State, 40-8, in the Sun Bowl.
This year will be the third full season in head coach Marcus Freeman’s tenure after going 19-8 in his 27 games at the helm.
