Caitlin Clark loves a good 3-pointer.
The Fever superstar, who was selected No. 1 overall in last month’s WNBA draft after a historic collegiate career at Iowa, was in attendance during the Knicks-Pacers Game 3 clash at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in her new Indiana stomping grounds.
After Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton nailed a 3-pointer, which extended the Pacers’ lead to 55-49 with 2:19 left in the second quarter, the ESPN broadcast showed Clark celebrating.
And it wasn’t just Clark in attendance — the majority of the Fever roster was in attendance Friday night.
Clark was with her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, who also played at Iowa and is the son of men’s head coach Fran McCaffrey.
Clark just completed her second preseason game as a pro on Thursday, recording 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the Fever’s preseason win over the Dream.
It marked Clark’s home debut in Indiana, and she was met with a massive reception.
“It was a lot of fun, I thought they were loud, I thought they were into it. It was fun to see,” Clark said after Thursday’s game. “This is a preseason game on a Thursday night and there’s 13,000 people here. I think that just shows you what it’s going to be like for us all season. It’s going to help us.”
The game’s attendance was officially listed at 13,028 — nearly three times larger than the slightly more than 4,000 per game Indiana averaged for its 20 regular-season home games in 2023.
“For me, this is the best part of it,” Clark said. “You’ve got to go out and compete every single night and if one night is not good for us, you have an opportunity to come back a couple days later and respond. I think this group will be ready (for the regular season) and everybody’s excited.
“I don’t think I was that effective, honestly. I thought more than anything I did a really good job of passing the ball, finding my teammates. Obviously, I would have liked to have made a couple more 3s, but sometimes that’s how you shoot it.”
In her WNBA debut, a 79-76 preseason loss to the Wings last week, Clark shined with a team-high 21 points.
