South Korea OKs new stroke prediction AI software
South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has recently approved an AI-based software for predicting the onset of ischemic stroke or cerebral infarction.
The NNS-SOT software, developed by researchers from Asan Medical Center and Nunaps, provides an estimated time of onset of cerebral infarction in brain MRI images. It is based on AI that was trained using approximately 4,000 brain images.
India-made gastric cancer detection device gets ‘breakthrough’ status
Indian medical diagnostics company RNT Health Insights has received a Breakthrough Device designation from the United States Food and Drug Administration for its early gastric cancer detection tool.
Its device is used during endoscopic procedures to detect lesions indicative of gastric cancer in the upper GI tract. It can also spot gastric atrophy, nodules, polyps, masses and growths in the stomach. RNT Health claims from preclinical validation that its device has 96% detection accuracy.
The device’s breakthrough status grants it an expedited review pathway to secure necessary permits for commercialisation.
DocPlix scores funding for AI integration in EMR
EHR startup DocPlix has obtained Rs 1.2 crore ($143,000) in bridge funding from Inflection Point Ventures.
This followed its pre-Series A funding round in March last year when it raised Rs 5 crore ($600,000). In 2022, it scooped up a seed fund amounting to Rs 1.2 crore ($143,000).
The new funds, according to a press release, will be used to enhance its EHR system, incorporate new AI capabilities, and expand its market reach, starting in the United States. DocPlix offers an Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission-compliant EHR system that helps digitise the health records of people living in tier 2 and 3 cities and is used by over 3,000 doctors.
