Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are the greatest team.
During the latest installment of his and Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, the Chiefs All-Pro tight end explained that his London “Eras Tour” cameo — when he surprised fans on stage as one of Swift’s backup dancers at Wembley Stadium in June — was his idea, but the singer fine-tuned it to be the “perfect” moment.
The conversation began when Jason mentioned that “something magical happened” on stage and asked “whose idea was this” to have his little brother become part of the show.
“I initially mentioned it to Tay. I said, ‘How funny would it be if I rolled out on one of the bikes during 1989, that era [portion of the show],” Travis said.
“She started laughing and she was like, ‘Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?’ And I was just like, ‘I would love to do that! Are you kidding me? I’ve seen the show enough, you might as well put me to work here.’ And sure enough, she found the perfect part of the show for me to come in. There wasn’t a bike incase I ran into somebody else or the dancers. It was like the safest option.”
Travis shocked the crowd at Wembley Stadium last month when he appeared on stage during an introduction to Swift’s performance of “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” — which Jason said is now his favorite Swift song.
The three-time Super Bowl champ, dressed in a tuxedo and wore a top hat, had an important role of carrying Swift to a couch on the stage as the production transitioned for her “Tortured Poets Department” set.
“It’s such a fun, playful part of the show. It was the perfect area or perfect time for me to go up there and just be a ham and have some fun, not only with her, [the backup dancers], but the crowd, and really get everbody excited for the rest of the show. It was awesome … I had an absolute blast,” Travis said, adding that it was an honor to share the stage with Swift.
“You can do no wrong when Taylor’s on stage.”
Travis, who’s known for his bubbly personality and party persona, joked that the cameo was “very unlike me.
“I don’t love going on stages,” he said, laughing.
Jason and his wife, Kylie Kelce, joined Travis in London and took in the show from the VIP tent.
