Things got weird when a Chicago Sky press conference was interrupted by an outside conversation about an “intimate relationship.”
Sky rookie Angel Reese, head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and guard Marina Mabrey appeared in disbelief when a reporter’s question about Reese’s WNBA record 13th consecutive double-double was paused due to the NSFW dialogue.
“Are we ever going to have an intimate relationship?” a female voice was heard saying in the background.
“I’m sorry the last part cut off,” Reese chimed in.
“Oh my, that’s an uncomfortable topic,” a man’s voice said, to which Reese responded with, “Excuse me?”
That’s when another Sky staff member asked the reporter to repeat their question.
“I never had any interest in being intimate with anyone,” the man said.
Reese, Weatherspoon and Mabrey jumped back in their chairs and looked taken aback by the interrupting topic.
The 22-year-old Reese — who was named to the 2024 WNBA All-Star team — covered her mouth with her hands.
“I told you they were being weird on that,” Mabrey said, laughing.
“What’s going on?” one person on the call asked.
“Somebody’s microphone is on,” another said, while “oohs” were heard in the background.
The call was muted for a second before Reese added, “Oooo they finna get fired.”
The unexpected events occurred due to “a live audio feed of a slightly risqué scene from the [TV show] ‘Big Bang Theory’ on WGN on the Zoom feed,” according to The Chicago Tribune.
Reese, who’s in the running for WNBA Rookie of the Year, made league history despite Chicago’s loss on Sunday.
With 17 points and 14 rebounds, Reese surpassed Candace Parker’s previous league record of 12 consecutive double-doubles in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
The Sky face the Dream in Chicago on Wednesday.
