Instead of Cosmo Kramer the “Assman,” how about Cosmo Kramer the MLB umpire?
During the Angels-Braves game Saturday in Anaheim, Calif., umpire James Hoye was seen on the broadcast wearing a shirt depicting the famous “Seinfeld” character underneath his official uniform.
Hoye, the crew chief, had been announcing that Braves utilityman Whit Merrifield’s solo home run was confirmed, and that’s when Angels announcers Wayne Randazzo and Mark Gubicza noticed the shirt and commented on it.
“This will certainly be confirmed as a home run,” Randazzo began.
“That’s Kramer on his shirt,” he said. “Look at that. A picture of Kramer on his shirt.”
Then Gubicza jumped in.
“Yes he does,” Gubicza said. “That’s Cosmo Kramer.”
“That’s unbelievable,” Randazzo said while laughing. “What a sequence we just saw. … Look at this picture, that’s ridiculous.”
Later, Randazzo posted on X that the moment was “Pretty much a top 3 highlight of my career.”
Hoye, 53, made his MLB debut in 2003 and worked the World Series in 2019 and 2022.
Recently, he was the home plate umpire and crew chief during the All-Star Game.
Merrifield’s homer helped the Braves rout the Angels, 11-3.
