Travis Kelce had Christmas to remember with history, cake, ‘Happy Gilmore’

Travis Kelce’s Christmas Day came with plenty of presents and some stocking stuffers to boot.

Not only did his Chiefs beat the Steelers and clinch the top spot in the AFC playoffs, but Kelce recorded his 1,000th career reception, set a franchise record with his 77th career receiving touchdown and was also featured in a trailer for the upcoming “Happy Gilmore” sequel.

Kelce made history in the fourth quarter when he snagged a wide-open pass from Patrick Mahomes in the back of the end zone to put the Chiefs up by three scores to pass fellow tight end icon Tony Gonzalez .

Fittingly, Kelce dunked the ball through the goal posts, a tribute to Gonzalez, who made that type of celebration his signature during his Hall of Fame career.

“It’s just showing Tony some love,” Kelce told reporters of his slam.

Gonzalez was impressed all the way around on the touchdown and celebration.

“Congrats to my man @tkelce on becoming the all time @Chiefs leader in touchdowns! Keep blazing trails my friend! btw nice dunk.”

Kelce finished the day with a team-leading eight catches for 84 yards and was awarded — along with Mahomes — a custom red Netflix robe and a football that actually turned out to be a red velvet cake, which of course, Kelce took a bite of on-screen.

However, during the festive day, he was flagged 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for his dunk.

But if he ends up getting tagged with a fine from the league, he might not need to worry about paying it.

Gonzalez, at the end of November, offered to pay Kelce’s bill if he decided to dunk on his record-breaking score.

Even if Gonzalez were to renege on his offer, Kelce might be able to pay for a potential fine himself with his check from his “Happy Gilmore” appearance.

The trailer for the movie aired throughout the afternoon during the exclusive Netflix game and featured one line from Kelce to Adam Sandler’s titular Gilmore.

“It’s good to have you back, Mr. Gilmore,” Kelce’s yet-to-be-named character said.

After Kelce was held to under 50 receiving yards for the past three games, the Chiefs were probably saying the same thing to their playmaker after Wednesday’s game.
