The college basketball coaching carousel is in full swing.
McNeese State’s Will Wade has reached an agreement with NC State to become the program’s next head coach, according to multiple reports.
The news comes as Wade’s 12th-seeded Cowboys are set to face No. 5 Clemson in first round of March Madness on Thursday,
It also comes less than 24 hours after Darian DeVries was hired as Indiana’s head coach.
Wade said earlier today that his players have been in the loop regarding his decisions.
“I lay it all out there to my players, and my players have laid it all out there to me,” Wade said. “We are transparent. We’ve shared it all with each other.”

If the move follows the same trend as many other college basketball coaching changes, plenty of those players may follow him straight to Raleigh through the transfer portal.
Wade is wrapping up his second season with the Cowboys and has taken the team to the NCAA Tournament in both years.
McNeese was a trendy upset pick for those filling out March Madness brackets last year before the 12th-seeded Cowboys got walloped by Gonzaga.
Wade’s squad is following the same story this season as Southland Conference champs yet again, except a walloping this time around would mark Wade’s last game with the program.
Prior to his stint with the Cowboys, Wade spent two seasons at Chattanooga and two at VCU, where he brought the Rams to the NCAA Tournament in both seasons before earning LSU’s head coaching job.

He spent five seasons with the Tigers, won the SEC regular season once and made the NCAA Tournament three times. He was suspended for the 2022-23 season for recruiting violations that led to his firing after the 2021-22 season.
The NC State job opened up after the Wolfpack fired head coach Kevin Keatts following this season’s massive disappointment, where they finished with a 12-19 overall record and a 5-15 conference record in one of the ACC’s weakest seasons in recent memory.
NC State is just a season removed from a miraculous run where it won five games in five days in the ACC Tournament to clinch an automatic NCAA Tournament berth and then followed it up with a Final Four run before falling to the eventual March Madness runner-up Purdue.
With quite the headline looming over Wade and McNeese now, the team will try to focus for its Thursday matchup with Clemson where Wade will have a sneak-peek at what ACC competition will look like.
