The Yankees will be without Jazz Chisholm Jr. for a while, as the team announced Friday that the second baseman was placed on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain.

The move is retroactive to Wednesday, after Chisholm suffered the injury on a swing against Baltimore on Tuesday and was removed later in the game following a dive into third.

Jorbit Vivas was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Chisholm’s spot on the roster.

Chisholm was hoping to avoid an IL stint, preferring to just miss a few games, but he underwent an MRI on Thursday and the Yankees opted to be cautious with the injury.

Pablo Reyes started at second in Wednesday’s loss to the Orioles.

Vivas was recalled from Triple-A last year, but didn’t appear in any games.

“I’m really not as concerned as everybody else,” Chisholm said in Baltimore after Wednesday’s win. “I feel pretty good. I’ve torn my oblique before, so I know it’s not torn or anything. I can cough without any pain. It was just to be cautious not to try to overdo it. I’d rather take two to three days off than six weeks.”

Depending on the severity of the injury, Chisholm could be back when he’s eligible in a little more than a week or it could be closer to a month.

Chisholm slumped a bit last month, but was 6-for-22 with a pair of extra-base hits in his last eight games.
