Jaire Alexander signs with Ravens after Packers breakup

Jaire Alexander tapped into his Louisville days to find his next home.

The former Packers cornerback signed with the Ravens, the team announced Wednesday, a move that reunites him with his former college quarterback, Lamar Jackson.

Alexander, 28, signed a one-year deal worth up to $6 million and turned down more money to play with Jackson, also 28, according to ESPN.

The Ravens released a video featuring the two celebrating the transaction, with the former Cardinals sharing a long hug before Jackson told him to sign a wall as a “new addition.”

“My boy, let’s do it,” Alexander said after the hug.

This addition comes on the heels of Jackson urging the reigning AFC North champions to sign Alexander, whom he played alongside from 2015-17 before both were selected in the first round of the 2018 draft.

The Ravens also posted an old video showing Alexander — the No. 18 pick in that draft — celebrating after Baltimore picked Jackson with the last pick — No. 32 — in the first round.

While Jackson has stayed with the Ravens for his whole career, Alexander split with Green Bay this offseason following a tumultuous 2023 season and a 2024 campaign plagued by injuries.

The two-time MVP said Tuesday he had already talked to Alexander, whom he labeled as “my boy.”

“Go get him, Eric,” Jackson said in reference to Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta. “I love all our corners, don’t get me wrong, but go get him, Eric.”

Alexander will provide a boost to the Ravens’ secondary if he can stay healthy.

Alexander has appeared in no more than seven games in three of his last four seasons, including seven-game campaigns in each of the last two years.

The two-time Pro Bowler battled multiple injuries last year before his season ended prior to Week 18, while his 2023 season included a suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.

The Packers ultimately released him earlier this month, although the door had not been closed on the parties staying together.

Alexander ultimately preferred what the Ravens had behind their door.

“Yo, this is Jaire here, I’m excited to be a part of the Ravens flock, baby,” Alexander said in a video posted by the team. “Let’s get to this money.”

The Ravens advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs last season before falling to the Bills.

Baltimore is looking to finally make the Super Bowl with Jackson under center, and opens the season at Buffalo on Sept. 7 in a playoff rematch.

“We’re going to bounce back and when we come back, I feel like we are going to have vengeance on our minds,” Jackson said.
