On Sunday afternoon, the Yankees won. The Mets lost.
The result, however, didn’t do much to change the tenor of the weekend for either team.
It was a positive three days for the Mets, and a concerning trip to Queens for the skidding Yankees.
The Mets have begun to distance themselves from the disastrous stretch of 14 losses in 17 games, taking a series at home this week from both the Brewers and Yankees. They did so with a patchwork pitching staff that is now down to three traditional starting pitchers: Frankie Montas, David Peterson and Clay Holmes.
