Takeaways from Giants’ joint practice with Jets as Jaxson Dart impresses

After watching the first Giants-Jets joint practice of the week on Tuesday, here are nine things Giants fans need to know coming out of a session that did not see tensions rise on a hot and sunny day in Florham Park:

— After a slow start, Russell Wilson and the starting offense got into a rhythm and ended the day going 3-for-3 in the red zone. Before that, the first group struggled keeping Wilson clean in the pocket, with the offensive line unable to set the line of scrimmage against the Jets’ defensive front. Mostly, though, the run blocking was adequate, or better.

— With Malik Nabers and Jalin Hyatt both sitting this one out, it was an opportunity for other wide receivers on the back end of the roster to state their case. Montrell Washington has been a camp revelation and busted loose on a big play in the preseason game in Buffalo, but he missed a few opportunities to make catches vs. the Jets. Beaux Collins made some plays. Ihmir Smith-Marsette, trying to show he is more than a returner on special teams, hauled in a good ball from Jaxson Dart.

— Dart’s best moment was a deep ball to tight end Theo Johnson that picked up nearly 40 yards. His next-best moment came in the final red zone period. Dart looked for Zach Pascal on a back-shoulder attempt in the left corner of the end zone. The ball was placed where Pascal could get it and no one else. Pascal made a juggling grab and was ruled to have tapped the end zone with both feet. That made head coach Brian Daboll smile.
