Sherrone Moore thought people at Michigan ‘were out to get him’: Adam Schefter

Sherrone Moore felt like some at Michigan “had it in for him” long before he was fired with cause Wednesday night, for engaging in a relationship with a staff member, according to ESPN.

Moore, 39, was later detained by Pittsfield police department on Wednesday for an alleged assault and he remains in police custody.

“What we haven’t heard yet is Sherrone Moore’s side of this and he gets his say into this particular situation, as well. And I do know that he felt like people had it in him for an awful long time while he was at Michigan. He felt like there were people who were out to get him,” NFL insider and Michigan alum Adam Schefter said appearing on ESPN’s “First Take” on Thursday.

Michigan fired Moore after it found “credible evidence ” that the coach engaged in an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

Before Moore was arrested in connection to assault allegations on Wednesday, a University of Michigan employee called police to report an attack by the now ex-coach, alleging that he had been stalking a woman for months, according to 911 audio obtained by The Post.

The call came from the address of an “executive assistant to the head coach,” according to public records. It is unclear if that employee is the alleged victim.

Moore and his wife Kelli welcomed their third daughter over the summer.

“So, all these things can all be true. It’s possible that yes, Michigan does have evidence that the had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. And Sherrone Moore could be right that people had it in for him,” Schefter said. “But the whole situation is sad and tragic. Now, we have an individual who had his professional life, his personal life completely upended. We have a school with a bunch of players who don’t have a coach to turn to right now. A school in search of a new coach to lead the program. There are a whole host of things that have transpired here that have led this to be a completely surreal, wild situation that if you heard about it you wouldn’t believe it because it almost seems made up.”

Separately, John Bacon, a University of Michigan instructor and author claimed in a TV interview that Moore “broke into an employee’s home in Pittsfield Township … grabbed a knife, and threatened to harm her and harm himself.”

“What we haven’t heard yet is Sherrone Moore’s side of this. And he gets his say in this particular situation as well. I do know he felt like people had it in for him for an awful long time.”

Here’s the latest on former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore

Moore remains in custody at Washtenaw County Jail, where Bacon says he’s in protective custody “surrounded by mental health professionals,” according to Bacon.

Moore had been acting “strange” prior to Wednesday’s wild sequence at Michigan, according to ESPN, with college football insider Pete Thamel reporting the situation had been “percolating” for the last few weeks.

“There had been a lot of uneasiness on the Michigan staff, sources had told me Sherrone Moore had been acting strange, berating assistant coaches, not acting in a normal way,” Thamel said Wednesday on “SportsCenter” after the coach was fired.

Moore signed a five-year contract with a base annual salary of $5.5 million last year. The university will not have to buy out the remaining years of his contract because he was fired for cause.

Moore led the Wolverines for the past two seasons.

The Wolverines went 9-3 in the 2025 regular season and are set to play the Texas Longhorns in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31.
