College football announcer Greg McElroy made a rather unfortunate slip on Thursday.

The ex-Jets quarterback accidentally referred to Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy as Kyren Lacy, the former LSU receiver who died via suicide last April, during the Rebels’ 39-34 upset of Georgia.

“Love the way Kyren Lacy runs,” McElroy said before correcting himself during the ESPN broadcast. “I mean, he has, — Kewan Lacy.”

Kyren died at the age of 24 in Houston on April 12, 2025 after a car crash while being followed by police.

His death was later ruled to be a suicide.

Kyren’s death came months after he was arrested following a fatal car crash that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall in December in Louisiana.

Louisiana State Police released a video in October showing Kyren passing cars in the opposite lane of traffic moments before a collision could be heard.

Kyren’s attorney previously released a video showing his client’s car being “approximately 72 yards,” away from the accident in an attempt to exonerate him.

He had been charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle, and turned himself in before being released on a $151,000 bond.

Kyren died two days before a scheduled grand jury hearing regarding the crash.

“A green Dodge Charger is seen traveling south in the opposing lane on LA 20 at a high rate of speed, passing three passenger vehicles and one loaded 18-wheeler in a designated no passing zone with a 40 mph posted speed limit,” said a narrator of the police clip.

“As the green Dodge Charger returns to the southbound lane, aggressive braking and engine deceleration are immediately followed by a crash that can be heard on the surveillance footage.”

Kewan is a star sophomore running back for the Rebels and helped them upset No. 3 Georgia on Thursday by rushing for 98 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

He’s tallied 1,464 rushing yards and 23 rushing scores this season.

No. 6 Ole Miss battles No. 10 Miami in the College Football Playoff semifinals next Thursday, with the winner facing the victor from the No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 5 Oregon clash.
