Trinidad Chambliss is planning on suing the NCAA in state court in Mississippi in an effort to get the Ole Miss quarterback the sixth year of eligibility that he’s been trying to secure.

The college QB’s lawyer, Tom Mars, told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that he would be working with Mississippi trial lawyer William Liston to prepare a “complaint for a Preliminary and Permanent Injunction on behalf of Trinidad Chambliss.”

“We expect the lawsuit to be far more detailed and documented than other eligibility lawsuits that have been filed in the past year,” Mars told ESPN. “Therefore, considerable work needs to be done before we’ll be prepared to seek an injunction that would allow Trinidad to play next season. Unless the NCAA appeals committee overturns the denial of the waiver before then, we currently anticipate filing the lawsuit in Mississippi state court toward the end of the week. In the meantime, we won’t have any further comment.”

Chambliss had been fighting to get a sixth year of eligibility in college football after helping to lead the Rebels to the College Football Playoff semifinals, where Ole Miss lost to Miami 31-27.

The NCAA had denied Chambliss’ request to extend his eligibility on Friday after it said that Ole Miss and Ferris State, where Chambliss had played before the Mississippi school, had not provided the right medical documents to warrant the approval of his request.

Chambliss had taken a redshirt his first season at Ferris State in 2021-22 and he was kept off the field in his second year there due to medical reasons.

He did play the next two seasons for the Division II school and led them to a national championship before transferring to Ole Miss right before this past season.

A waiver request was submitted in November to the NCAA by Ole Miss.

Chambliss threw for nearly 4,000 yards and had 22 touchdown passes during the Rebels’ 13-2 season, which included setting a school record for wins and making the CFP for the first time.

Ole Miss did land a potential Chambliss replacement in the transfer portal on Sunday.

Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight committed to Ole Miss on Sunday, according to ESPN,  after making two appearances for the Tigers as a true freshman this past season.

He threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns ina 62-17 win over Mercer in November.
