The crowd was going “Ham for Sam” at Super Bowl Opening Night.
The Seahawks quarterback was serenaded by a brief chant of “Ham for Sam” during his media session on Monday night after “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” personality Guillermo presented him with a “Ham for Sam” button, hat and serape.
“Everybody is saying gay for Maye,” Guillermo started off saying to Darnold as he sat at the dais. “But not me, I say, Ham for Sam.”
That’s when the late-night personality presented Darnold with the trinkets that he had brought with him.
Darnold very briefly put the hat on, which was a giant plastic ham, and then held up the serape.
Guillermo then led the crowd in a chant in honor of Darnold, which seemed to embarrass the Seahawks quarterback.
“No, no, no you guys are good,” Darnold interjected with a smile on his face. “You don’t have to do that. That’s really nice. Thank you, you don’t have to do that.”
Darnold has been one of the big storylines during the playoff run, especially in the Big Apple, where he played his first three years in the NFL and struggled before being sent to Carolina in 2021.
Darnold experienced a resurgence in the past two years, turning into a star quarterback during stints with the Vikings and now in Seattle, where he threw for 4,048 yards on 323 completed passes and recorded 25 touchdown passes during the 2025 season.
The quarterback spent an hour at the dais answering questions during Super Bowl Opening Night.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” personality interjected into a number of press conferences on Monday night, which included a hilarious moment between Guillermo and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.
Jimmy Kimmel has had a long-running bit about a feud between the late-night host and Matt Damon, which led to Guillermo asking the Patriots coach if he wanted to tell the Academy Award winner “that he sucks.”
