Kenny Albert was built for moments like these.

Team USA men’s hockey captured its first gold medal since 1980 on Sunday, edging out Canada in a 2–1 overtime thriller at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The momentous occasion was expertly soundtracked by the legendary sportscaster Albert, who delivered a goosebumps-inducing call on NBC as Jack Hughes netted the game-winning goal in the extra period.

“United States with numbers,” Albert said as the U.S. stormed down the ice in the 3-on-3 period. “Back across it comes — Jack Hughes wins it! The golden goal for the United States! For the first time since the 1980 miracle, the United States takes the gold!”

Albert, the television voice of the Rangers, was lauded throughout the Milano Cortina Games for his first-rate hockey coverage on NBC/Peacock — masterfully elevating gold medal wins for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Just days ago, he delivered an electrifying call of another overtime game-winner — letting the moment breathe after Quinn Hughes, Jack’s brother, found the net in OT to lift Team USA over Sweden in the quarterfinals.

Albert, 58, has been on the call for hockey in a U.S. record seven Olympic Winter Games dating back to the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City — which, ironically, saw Canada down the U.S. in both the men’s and women’s finals.
