An NFL return for 2026 isn’t out of the question for Aaron Rodgers.
Reporting ahead of Sunday’s slate of games, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that he “wouldn’t be surprised” to see Rodgers back in Pittsburgh next season.
Rodgers joined the Steelers this past offseason on a one-year deal, setting up the potential for this to be the final season of his NFL career.
However, from Rapoport’s report, there may be another season in Rodgers.
“Aaron Rodgers started the season saying he believed that this was likely his last season in the NFL. Well it’s gone well, he’s had a great experience, Steelers had a great experience with him and he mused this week that maybe it might not be his last season,” Rapoport said on NFL Network. “Maybe he’ll have an opportunity to or two to come back. To me, wouldn’t be surprised at all if it’s Pittsburgh. Maybe they take a young quarterback. They’re still going to need a bridge starter. I could see it being [Rodgers].”
Rodgers has thrown for over 3,000 yards this season with the Steelers while also adding 23 touchdown passes.
The future Hall-of-Fame quarterback left the door open to returning when he spoke to reporters last week and praised his time in Pittsburgh thus far.

“Whenever the season ends, I’ll be a free agent. So that’ll give me a lot of options if I still want to play. I mean, not a lot of options, but there’ll be options, I would think, maybe one or two, if I decide I still want to play,” he told reporters last week. “I’ve enjoyed this experience, and everybody in Pittsburgh has been fantastic to me on and off the field. And it’s really what I was hoping for this experience was, it’s been even better than I was hoping.”
The 42-year-old’s mind is likely not on his status for next season with a do-or-die game in front of him on “Sunday Night Football.”
The Steelers have to beat the Ravens in order to clinch the division and earn a berth in the playoffs.

It’s the second time the AFC North rivals will face each other and will take place in Pittsburgh after the Steelers were able to pick up a 27-22 road win back on Dec. 7.
Rodgers completed 23 of 34 pass attempts for 284 yards and a touchdown.
