Alex Rodriguez pleaded the fifth.
The controversial former Yankees superstar was asked about Mets slugger Pete Alonso’s future while on “Evan and Tiki” on WFAN on Thursday.
Alonso recently hired super-agent Scott Boras, The Post’s Jon Heyman first reported earlier this month, as the first baseman enters the final year of his contract with the Mets.
Few likely know Boras better than Rodriguez, who had Boras as his agent for much of his career.
“Should the Mets fans now be nervous that Pete Alonso hired Scott Boras?” Tiki Barber asked Rodriguez on the show. “Like is he going someplace else?”
Rodriguez’s silence was deafening.
All he could do was let out a “hmm,” before going quiet, prompting Evan Roberts to check “Alex, are you there?”
Rodriguez had nothing to share on the topic.
“Yeah I’m here, but I don’t have anything to add to that,” Rodriguez answered before the two hosts broke out in laughter.
“That silence scared the crap out of me,” Roberts, who is an outspoken Mets fan, said.
“We’ll take that as a no comment,” Barber chimed in.
“Exactly, there you go,” Rodriguez agreed.
Alonso’s decision to hire Boras has raised questioned about his Mets future, as Boras is known to take his clients to free agency rather than have them sign long-term extensions before hitting the open market.
The Mets tried to lock up Alonso last winter, but the two sides “weren’t in the same ballpark,” Heyman reported, and a few trade rumors started to pop up toward the end of the regular season.
New president of baseball operations David Stearns said at his introductory press conference that he expects Alonso to be a Met at least to start the season.
Rodriguez had a fractured relationship with Boras, who negotiated his 10-year, $252-million deal with the Rangers in 2000.
Later with the Yankees, Rodriguez opted out of that deal with three years remaining and subsequently signed a 10-year, $275 million deal to stay in New York.
Boras informed the team of the decision to opt out during Game 4 of the 2007 World Series between the Red Sox and Rockies, which drew ample criticism for the timing.
Rodriguez later criticized Boras for his handling of the situation, and claimed he negotiated the new deal without Boras’ help.
Rodriguez fired Boras as his agent in 2010.
Though he’s said it before, Rodriguez also told “Evan and Tiki” that he originally wanted to play for the Mets.
“I told my agent, Scott Boras, that I would a 50 percent haircut [sic] to come play in New York with the Mets,” Rodriguez said.
