It just keeps getting worse for the Mavericks.
After losing star Kyrie Irving to a season-ending ACL injury, ESPN’s Shams Charania floated the idea Tuesday that Anthony Davis, who is sidelined with an adductor strain, could sit the rest of the season as well.
“I think him, his representatives are gonna huddle up,” Charania said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “I think they’re gonna have some very hard conversations. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that one game was the last time we’ve seen AD this season.”
Davis went down with the injury in his first game with the Mavericks after being traded from the Lakers in the infamous Luka Doncic deal.
The star big man had reportedly been expected to be out for roughly a month at the time.
Davis’s iffy status adds to what has been a disastrous month for the franchise.
Mavericks fans have staged boycotts and protests at the arena after the team traded away Doncic in one of the most scrutinized moves in NBA history.
On Monday morning, hours before Irving hurt his knee, the Mavericks sent season-ticket holders renewal information that included an average overall price increase of 8.61 percent, citing “ongoing investments in team and fan engagement” as the rationale for the price hike.
The injury-plagued Mavericks are currently clinging onto a play-in spot, sitting in 10th with their 32-30 record, 3 1/2 games — three in the loss column — ahead of the Suns with 20 games remaining.
The miserable month comes a year after the Mavericks made an unlikely NBA Finals run behind Doncic and Irving, falling to the Celtics in five games.
