Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller broke his silence Thursday amid accusations that he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, calling the allegations “100 percent false” and “blown out of proportion.”
Miller, an eight-time Pro Bowler, was charged with third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman, following an alleged domestic incident with his longtime girlfriend at their Dallas home on Nov. 29 — during the Bills’ bye week.
“Obviously there are things that I can’t talk about, but everything that was out is completely wrong and blown out of proportion,” Miller told reporters.
“Me and my girlfriend, we have problems just like any other couple does, but there has never been any of those things that was alleged against me.”
“Hopefully over time, all of this stuff will get cleared up,” he added.
The incident started after Miller became frustrated over the woman’s travel plans, according to police.
In an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Dallas Morning News, Miller allegedly shoved the woman multiple times, yanking her hair and putting his hands around her neck.
Miller’s girlfriend, whom he shares two children with, attempted to walk into an office room to collect her belongings in the house when she slammed the door.
Miller allegedly told the woman to get out after seeing she was collecting her laptop and cellphone.
The affidavit alleged Miller then pushed the woman and held her neck with pressure for about 3 to 5 seconds as she pleaded with him,” Stop, I’m pregnant.”
Miller turned himself over to the Glenn Heights Police Department on Nov. 30 and was released that afternoon on $5,000 bond.
The charge is punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The woman, meanwhile, downplayed the alleged physical incident that same day, saying “Things were blown way out of context. No one assaulted anyone.”
Miller blasted the reports of the alleged altercation and claims the accusations are made up, saying “all of it is incorrect.”
“There are men and women that deal with serious domestic situations,” Miller said. “You cannot downplay that. Never in any of my relationships that I’ve been in — in my current relationship with my girlfriend did any of things happen. Whenever you see those things pop up in articles, it’s shocking especially when my name is attached to it. It is 100 percent false. It’s overblown and I have the right people on the job.
“All of it is incorrect. All of it is untrue. The only thing that is true is we do have a third son on the way.”
Miller has yet to be criminally charged for his alleged domestic abuse case, as an investigation by the NFL is still pending while he’s been cleared to play for the Bills.
Miller is slowly coming back after undergoing knee surgery from a torn ACL he suffered on Thanksgiving day last year. The edge rusher missed the first 11 games this year before he was activated from the Bills’ IR on Oct. 7.
Miller, the NFL’s active all-time leader in sacks, met with Bills owner Terry Pegula, general manager Brandon Beane and coach Sean McDermott to give his full side of the story.
“These guys know me, they’ve been around me,” Miller said. “Everyone can have a lapse in judgment, but that’s just not been me,” Miller said.
