Bo Nix’s wife posted an emotional message Monday after the Broncos quarterback’s postseason run was cut short due to a season-ending ankle injury in the divisional round.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Izzy Nix posted a photo of her quarterback husband in the aftermath of Saturday’s 33-30 overtime victory versus the Bills, when he sustained a fracture in his right ankle in extra minutes.
“I snuck this picture because I wanted to remember this moment forever,” Izzy began. “The joy, followed by the heartbreak, followed by watching each teammate and coach come to this little corner and sit by Bo’s side. God could have placed us anywhere, and I’m so grateful He chose Denver. He is the Author of Bo’s story and we cannot wait to see what He has in store for this team — We’ll be on the front row, cheering the loudest!!!”
She concluded her message with the 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 bible verse that read: “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.”
Prior to the injury revelation, Nix — in his second postseason appearance — went 26-for-46 with 279 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
Shortly after the Broncos punched their tickets to an AFC Championship date against the Patriots, head coach Sean Payton confirmed Nix would undergo season-ending surgery.
“He’s a tough cookie,” Payton said. “I said [to him], ‘Listen, I believe you’re the second quarterback in Year 2 to take your team to a championship game. And the first is [Patrick] Mahomes.’ This team, all year, has lost key players. We’ll rise up for the next challenge, and we’ll go from there.”
Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham is expected to start in Sunday’s AFC Championship game.
Izzy is close with Stidham’s wife, Kennedy, who also reflected on the “whirlwind of emotions” from Saturday’s game.
“Absolute whirlwind of emotions after the game last night,” she wrote Sunday in an Instagram Story. “Ultimately so proud of these boys & what they have accomplished this so far. do it for 10!!!!”
Izzy married Nix in 2022, two years before the Broncos selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The couple announced in October that they’re expecting their first child.
The AFC title game gets underway in Denver on Sunday at 3 p.m.
