Brooks Koepka’s mom fires back at $130 million crying controversy

They are not a family of criers.

Brooks Koepka’s mom, Denise Jakows, responded to Wednesday’s report that she and the golfer shared an emotional phone call after he reportedly got $130 million to bolt from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf.

“Just to clarify, the only time my son (Brooks) and I cried together was when he was born,” Jakows wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“He was testing lungs for the first time; I was glad the pregnancy ordeal was over. End of story.”

An excerpt from golf writer Alan Shipnuck’s new book, “LIV and Let Die,” was released by the Fire Pit Collective, and in it, a boozy scene was described involving a group of recent defectors.

“F–k all of those country club kids who talk s–t about me,” the book claims Koepka says, apparently in reference to golfers like Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, who criticized players for leaving the PGA Tour.

“You think I give a f–k what they think? You think I care what people say about me? I just had three surgeries, and I’m supposed to turn down $130 million? I grew up with nothing. After signing that contract, the first person I called was my mom. We both cried.”

Koepka seconded Thomas’ frustration with Shipnuck writing negative stories about players.

Thomas, referring to a separate excerpt where a former Ryder Cup teammate vented frustration at Rory McIlroy, wrote on X: “I’d like to speak on behalf of a lot of Tour players and say we’re sick of @AlanShipnuck doing what he does. Bring positivity and good stories to help grow the game of golf, not try and make money bashing guys, earning zero trust, with a lot of incorrect information. Ridiculous.”

Koepka quote tweeted Thomas with, “And LIV players…”

The alleged meeting, which also included Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez, was at the JP McManus Pro-Am in Ireland in July 2022.

Jakows — a former Florida TV anchor, according to SportsSkeeda — is also the mother of Chase Koepka, who is a member of LIV Golf.

“Proud mom to legendary sons who play golf. It wasn’t easy,” her X bio reads.

Koepka was one of a handful of PGA stars who were lured to LIV Golf by nine-figure guaranteed deals.

The list includes Johnson, Sergio Garcia and former Koepka rival, Bryson DeChambeau.

Koepka’s game was at a near low-point when he made the decision to leave the PGA Tour as he dealt with serious wrist and knee injuries after bursting onto the scene by winning two PGA Championships and two US Opens between 2017-19.

Koepka, 33, made the most out of his major appearances this year, winning a third US Open and finishing tied for second at The Masters behind Jon Rahm.

Koepka was a part of the losing American Ryder Cup team last week in Rome, including a historic 9 & 7 defeat suffered while partnering with Scottie Scheffler against Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg.
