Bryson DeChambeau had ‘zero’ involvement in ‘Full Swing’

Bryson DeChambeau’s presence was certainly felt in the newest installment of “Full Swing,” despite having “absolutely zero” involvement in the third season of the Netflix docuseries.

Speaking Tuesday on the “Dan on Golf” podcast with Dan Rapaport, “Full Swing” executive producer Chad Mumm detailed how production was able to paint “a pretty real portrait” of the two-time major champion, whose story was told in the third episode alongside Rory McIlroy, who did participate in a sit-down interview.

“[We] hoped that he would sort of tell it in his own words, but his story is so relevant to where golf is right now in general, and this marriage of content culture and obviously creators and pro golf,” Mumm said.

Bryson DeChambeau appeared in Season 3 of “Full Swing” but did not sit down for an interview. Netflix

“… He’s also like an amazing foil for Rory in many ways and obviously that episode culminates in their duel at Pinehurst [during the 2024 U.S. Open].”

With more than one million subscribers on YouTube, where his “Break 50” series has featured the likes of President Donald Trump, John Daly and Tom Brady, DeChambeau has cultivated a growing fanbase over the years, many of whom relished in his U.S. Open victory last summer over McIlroy, who imploded late in the final round.

Although McIlroy, 35, is in the spotlight much like his LIV Golf counterpart — with the Northern Irishman’s stunning divorce reversal becoming public fodder in June — Mumm noted the contrast between the PGA Tour star’s forward persona and DeChambeau’s made for an intriguing watch.

“I’m not saying I’m glad that Bryson didn’t sit down, I just think he produces so much media that he curates about his image and who he is and his personality, that we were able to kind of assemble what I think is a pretty real portrait of who he is. And I think if he would have sat down it would have been, he would have said the same thing he always says in press conferences, and I think the way he puts himself forward with his content he creates, it’s also like this great opposite of Rory,” Mumm said.

“Cause Rory, it’s like, you see him on the golf course, maybe you see him pop up in ‘Full Swing’, but he lives a pretty private life. Bryson’s kind of the opposite, so there was no shortage of material to make that episode compelling.”

Should DeChambeau, 31, want to share his insight on a future installment, Munn said “the door’s always open.”

In addition to covering DeChambeau and McIlroy, the newest edition of “Full Swing” chronicled several prominent storylines of the 2024 season, including the Paris Olympics, the Presidents Cup and Scottie Scheffler’s shocking arrest at the PGA Championship last May.

The docuseries has aired on Netflix since 2023.
