The Cavaliers are going to have to try to tie their second-round NBA playoff series against the Celtics without their best player.
Donovan Mitchell is out for Monday’s crucial Game 4 in Cleveland with a calf injury, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
Mitchell suffered a left calf strain during the fourth quarter of the Cavaliers’ Game 3 loss on Saturday, which put the team in a 2-1 series deficit.
The 27-year-old guard, who earned his fifth consecutive All-Star nod this season, is averaging 29.6 points per game in the playoffs, along with 5.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists.
He put up 50 points during a Game 6 loss to the Magic in the first round, his third-career 50-point playoff game, and he followed that up with 39 points in a Game 7 win.
Mitchell had 33 points on 12-for-22 shooting, including 7-for-12 on 3-pointers, in the Cavs’ Game 3 loss.
The series goes back to Boston for Game 5 on Wednesday.
