During Saturday night’s NCAA Tournament matchup between the Wisconsin Badgers and BYU Cougars, viewers were treated to an unexpected bit of chaos.

And it was all courtesy of a malfunctioning CBS score bug during the second round of March Madness.

Midway through the first half, Wisconsin guard John Blackwell nailed a 3-pointer to trim BYU’s lead to 38-27, and then it became the highest-scoring 3-point shot of all time.

The CBS score graphic suddenly began spiraling out of control, flashing a rapid sequence of increasing numbers as if the Badgers were racking up points on fast-forward.

The CBS scorebug did not know what to do when Wisconsin made a three-pointer vs BYU.

The score jumped from 27 to 30 to 33 and continued to grow through intervals of three until hitting 51, then jumping to 111 and getting as high as 225 before the score bug was pulled off the air for over a minute of real time.

It wasn’t just a one-time glitch.

The madness returned in the second half after another Wisconsin 3-pointer — this time from John Tonje.

Once again, the Badgers’ score skyrocketed, this time all the way up to 346 before the score bug disappeared again.

The incident quickly made the rounds online, with fans sharing clips and cracking jokes.

Though the bug was ultimately fixed, it provided a rare moment of hilarity in an otherwise intense tournament that will see many college careers end.

CBS has not issued a formal explanation for the error, as of this writing.

As for the game itself, BYU escaped with a narrow upset, winning 91-89 against the No. 3-seeded Badgers.

In the Sweet 16, BYU will play the winner of Sunday’s Alabama vs. Saint Mary’s game.
