The Chiefs’ loss on Sunday was the team’s first loss against the Broncos since 2015 and came less than two days after Travis Kelce was seen at the World Series in Texas.
Many made a connection, including Chiefs Hall of Fame kicker Nick Lowery.
“I’m just gonna say this once…. I adore my Chiefs,” the longtime kicker posted on Facebook after Sunday’s loss. “I love Patrick… I love Travis, and it’s been fun witnessing the ‘Taylor factor’- as long as it’s not a distraction… However, when I saw Travis watching the World Series in Texas….on a Friday night before a road game….do i have to finish the sentence?”
The Chiefs offense was held in check in the 24-9 loss, the team’s first defeat since Week 1.
“It’s always about staying hungry and humble,” Lowery said. “We don’t know what time he got home on Friday night. But it’s a distraction, and it’s not a good message to the rest of the team. Travis is a phenomenal, full of life true leader the players look up to, a superb human being, and one of the greatest Chiefs of all time – period, and one of my favorite people anywhere….
“We will bounce back!”
“Let this be a lesson.”
Kelce caught six passes for a team-high 58 yards in Taylor Swift’s absence.
Lowery, who made his debut with the Patriots in 1978, played with the Chiefs from 1980 to 1993.
He was a three-time Pro Bowler, two-time First-Team All-Pro and led the NFL in scoring in 1990.
Lowery played his final three seasons with the Jets and was the NFL’s leader in field goal percentage and field goals made at the time of his retirement.
Lowery also spoke about Kelce and Swift romance on Michele Tafoya’s show posted Monday.
“If anybody could handle it, it’s Travis Kelce,” he said. “If he was 26 or 27, he’s 33, she’s 33, this ain’t their first rodeo. He’s won two Super Bowls, he’s hosted ‘Saturday Night Live,’ he’s on almost as many as Taylor, maybe more.”
“His personality, he’s going to go into acting, I mean I can just see it,” said Lowery, who was a theater major his first two years at Dartmouth.
Lowery added, “He does seem to play as well or better when she’s in the stadium.”
The NFL vet is correct, as the statistics show, including 12 catches and 179 yards in an impressive performance in October against the Chargers.
