Warriors-Spurs pick

After losing to the Spurs on Saturday night in San Francisco, the Golden State Warriors head down to Texas for a rematch against San Antonio on Monday.

Golden State is favored by 4.5 points on Fanatics Sportsbook. Normally that spread would make sense, but I like the Spurs on Monday with Steph Curry missing the game.

Curry was sidelined for Saturday’s matchup against the Spurs with an ankle injury and he’ll miss Monday’s game as well. That is bad news for the Warriors, who are 0-4 this season when Curry does not play. Klay Thompson is still capable of big nights off the bench and Jonathan Kuminga has become a credible second scorer, but beyond those two there just isn’t much scoring punch.

Even though San Antonio has the worst record in the Western Conference, it is playing much better as of late with three wins in its last five games. Victor Wembanyama looks the part of a generational talent already, averaging 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.4 blocks per game, while guys like Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson have developed into consistent secondary scorers.

The Spurs defense remains an issue (120.3 points allowed per game), but not having to deal with Curry should ease that concern.
