Connor Stalions is perhaps breathing a sigh of relief.
After the former Michigan staffer nearly derailed the Wolverines’ season by getting caught allegedly puppeteering an illegal sign-stealing operation that prompted his resignation in November, Stalions took to X late Monday night to celebrate Michigan’s CFP national championship victory.
Stalions posted a GIF of Sean Connery fist-pumping at a U.S. Open tennis match.
While sign-stealing alone is not illegal, off-campus scouting is prohibited, and Stalions was accused of running a scheme which involved people scouting future opponents in person.
Stalions was spotted wearing sunglasses and a Central Michigan hat on the Chippewas sideline during its Sept. 1 game against Michigan State.
The sign-stealing scandal led to the Big Ten suspending head coach Jim Harbaugh for Michigan’s final three regular-season games, including the finale against rival Ohio State, despite Harbaugh denying any knowledge of the scheme.
Michigan won all three of those games to remain undefeated, and Harbaugh returned to the sideline for the team’s Big Ten championship win over Iowa before leading the Wolverines to victories over Alabama and Washington, capturing the school’s first national title since 1997.
Stalions was spotted in Indianapolis for the Big Ten title game and in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl.
Harbaugh was also suspended for the first three games of the season, with Michigan self-imposing the ban after recruiting violations.
He may still face discipline from the NCAA over the sign-stealing scandal as he weighs whether to return to the NFL.
Harbaugh had reportedly been offered a 10-year, $125 million contract extension at some point before the championship game, and he recently hired Tom Brady’s agent, Don Yee, as his new representation.
