Dana White isn’t a fan of Mike Tyson fighting Jake Paul.
The UFC boss appeared on the “Flagrant” podcast and laughed off the idea that he had anything to do with setting it up.
“God, no,” White said, as covered by Bro Bible. “When this fight happens, Tyson will be 58 f–king years old. A f–king almost 60-year-old man shouldn’t be fighting a 27-year-old guy. Under any circumstances. Even if it’s Mike Tyson. It’s just f–king ridiculous.”
White referenced the fight that Paul lost in a split decision to Tommy Fury last February.
“My biggest problem with the Jake Paul thing and how this plays out is,” White said, “when he actually fought somebody who was a boxer, who had the same type of record he has, who was his age, who is his size, he f—king lost. So, they’re never gonna go that f–king route again, right?”
The scheduled July 20 fight in Dallas to be aired on Netflix was delayed indefinitely after Tyson had a medical episode on a recent flight.
“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time,” Tyson said in a statement last week.
“Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover. My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon.”
Since that announcement, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix reported that there is “genuine concern” as to whether the fight will ever actually happen.
“Again, Mike Tyson is 57 years old; he’s almost 58 years old,” Mannix said on the “Rich Eisen Show” earlier this week.
“They’re saying it’s a minor ulcer issue, but I don’t think anything’s minor at that stage of your life, especially when it comes to putting yourself in the proper shape to fight a professional boxing match.”
