Deion Sanders just got a healthy raise to stay in Colorado.

The Buffaloes coach was given a hefty bump in pay by the university, extending his current contract to $54 million over the next five years.

That nearly doubles the salary of his previous contract — a five-year $29.5 million deal after he came over from Jackson State in 2023.

Sanders built excitement around the Buffaloes program, turning turning what was a 1-11 team in 2022 into a 9-4 squad that went to the Alamo Bowl this season.

He also raised Colorado’s profile by helping son Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter become projected first-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Coach Prime brought the pair with him from Jackson State, where he made just $300,000 per year and put together a 27-6 record over three seasons as coach of the Tigers.

Sanders will now make $10 million in 2025 and 2026 before a raise to $11 million kicks in, in 2027 and 2028. In 2029, the final year of the extension, he’ll earn $12 million, according to Buffzone’s Brian Howell.

There had previously been buzz that Sanders would depart for the NFL, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones checking in over his vacant the head coaching opening that eventually went to Brian Schottenheimer.

The Buffaloes have the 37th best college football recruiting class and will look to replace some key contributors who have departed for the NFL.
