Tua Tagovailoa will continue his recovery from Thursday’s scary concussion on IR.
The Dolphins are placing the 26-year-old quarterback on their injured reserved list in the wake of his fourth documented concussion, which he sustained in Miami’s Week 2 loss to the Bills, the team announced Tuesday.
Tagaovailoa, who sustained the injury while rushing for a first down against the Bills in the 31-10 loss, will now have “ample time to progress through the stages of concussion protocol and meet with outside neurologists,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The Dolphins have maintained there is no timetable for Tagovailoa’s return and he will miss time through at least Week 7.
It was reported over the weekend that Tagovailoa —who agreed to a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension with the Dolphins over the summer — has “no plans to retire.”
The Dolphins offfcially signed former Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley on Tuesday. He joins former seventh-round pick Skylar Thompson.
Head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday he was “not quite” ready to decide on sending Tagovailoa to the IR, but added, “We’ll see in the next coming days.”
The Dolphins visit the Seahawks on Sunday.
