DoorDash and Monster Energy are among the 14 companies that cracked the Fortune 500 for the first time

On Fortune’s annual ranking of the top U.S. companies by revenue, there 14 new faces, or companies that made the list for the first time this year.

Tech leads the pack of newcomers that made it to the Fortune 500 list, with five companies represented from that sector. Along with the other newcomers—which include financial, health care and telecommunications corporations—they generated a combined revenue of $144 billion.

The varied bunch making their debut includes DoorDash as the top tech company, along with IntuitiveSurgical (the creator of the surgical robot DaVinci5) and beverage company Monster Energy. These companies’ founding years span three centuries. At the older end are the banks New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) and First Citizens BancShares, founded in 1859 and 1898, respectively. DoorDash, the youngest, was founded in 2013.

Much like the list of newcomers of 2023, when Silicon Valley Bank made its debut after its March collapse, the embattled NYCB makes its first appearance on the list this year with a reported 2023 revenue of $8.2 billion.

The biggest leap among the newcomers belongs to EchoStar. Despite not having a Fortune 1000 ranking last year, the satellite and internet service provider sits in the No. 242 position of the 2024 Fortune 500. EchoStar is also the newcomer with the biggest revenue increase, reaching $17 billion.
