The two most feared words in sports betting are becoming “Drake curse.”

The famous rapper lost another wager, this time getting taken for $700,000 in cryptocurrency for backing UFC fighter Sean Strickland in his middleweight title fight against Dricus Du Plessis.

The incumbent champion, Strickland, was a near coin-flip in the fight and lost via split decision in Drake’s hometown of Toronto.

Strickland’s decision loss didn’t come without some controversy, as UFC president Dana White said he scored the fight for Strickland, while media members were split on who won the fight.

Drake’s bet is not his first on the UFC; he has historically been a big MMA bettor, although not with much success.

The Drake curse with UFC betting dates back to when the rapper stood on stage with Conor McGregor prior to his title bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

McGregor lost by submission in that 2018 fight.

This past September, Drake wagered on Israel Adesanya in the last middleweight title bout as a massive favorite against Strickland.

His wager of $500,000 on Adesanya by KO wasn’t even close, as Strickland dominated the fight as a huge underdog.

Adesanya lost outright as a -400 underdog on BetMGM Sportsbook.

Drake’s foibles in the betting department are becoming a legend, as even the new champion had to rub salt in the wound.

“O snap almost forgot, Thanks @Drake,” new champion Du Plessis said in a post on X after winning the belt.

It is important to recognize that Drake is not making these wagers at a Las Vegas casino or anything of the sort.

Drake is wagering on a platform known as Stake Casino, with whom he has a partnership and is paid by.

The bet slips play great on social media and give the company legitimacy, although Stake is a cryptocurrency casino and is based in Australia.
