MONTREAL — Kaapo Kakko has lived in the fast lane since he was traded from New York to Seattle on Dec. 18.
There was no time to pack up his city apartment — he had to hire a service — as he flew from Dallas to Chicago to meet the Kraken for his first game in a different jersey than his No. 24 Rangers sweater. It was the first of a three-game road trip for the Kraken, continuing on to Vegas and Colorado.
It was quick, but it was time.
Time for the Rangers to move on from their second-overall pick in 2019, who never validated the draft hype and never quite fit in their lineup. Time for Kakko to move on from the organization that never fully trusted him and, therefore, never gave him the extended opportunities required to develop.
