Harrison Butker has made his choice.
The Chiefs Pro Bowl kicker declared his support for Donald Trump on “The Ingraham Angle” on Thursday, telling the Fox News host his choice came down to one major issue.
“I’m supporting the president that’s going to be the most pro-life president I think, Donald Trump,” the 29-year-old Butker told host Laura Ingraham while seated next to Missouri Senator Josh Hawley during a campaign event for the lawmaker — whom he also endorsed.
“The [pro-life] topic is the most crucial topic for me. I want us to be fighting for the most vulnerable, fighting for the unborn, and that’s what we should prioritize,” Butker said.
“I think you have to vote for whoever is gonna be the most pro-life and we have to be prayerful men that put God first. I think that’s what’s going to be best for our country.”
Butker’s endorsement ahead of the Nov. 5 Election Day should hardly be surprising.
The eight-year NFL veteran drew plenty of attention this offseason when he delivered a divisive commencement speech to graduates at Benedictine College in May in which he decried Covid lockdowns, President Joe Biden, the media and Pride Month, while suggesting that women in the crowd should be more excited about becoming wives and mothers than advancing a potential career.
Butker, who has since become the NFL’s highest-paid kicker, later said he did not regret his speech despite the controversy that came with it, a sentiment he expressed to Ingraham.
“I was trying to speak life for so many women that have dedicated their life to being the homemaker, being the one that raises the children, and it’s a beautiful role, but it’s not a role that should be diminished,” he said.
While Butker’s high-profile teammates like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have declined to wade into politics, their significant others have.
Mahomes’ wife Brittany earned plaudits from Trump after liking one of for presidential candidate’s Instagram posts, while Kelce’s girlfriend, pop megastar Taylor Swift, famously threw her weight behind the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz Democratic ticket.
