The flagship event of the PGA Tour kicks off today.

The 2025 Players Championship comes about one month before the first Major championship (The Masters begins on April 10) and will feature a field of 144 players vying for a piece of the largest prize purse on the tour.

Golfers have a handful of ways to qualify for The Players Championship; winners on the PGA Tour since the previous Players Championship, recent winners of major championships, The Players and World Golf Championships, and leading players in the FedEx Cup standings are all granted a spot in the field.

The No. 1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, took home the top prize at the last two Players Championships, and though he’s yet to win a tournament during the 2025 PGA Tour, he’s been a consistent contender following an injury.
