Jimmy Butler’s credit card problem spurs ‘unemployed’ joke at suspended Heat star

Jimmy Butler is keeping his sense of humor.

The disgruntled Heat star joked about his employment status on Wednesday night in a video posted to his Instagram Story.

The 35-year-old Butler is currently suspended from the Heat for the third time this month, this time for “conduct detrimental to the team and intentionally withholding services, conduct detrimental to the team and intentionally withholding services.”

“You’re currently unemployed so your card doesn’t work, sir.”

The video shows Butler at a store attempting to pay a $107 bill with his American Express card.

Nevertheless, as he attempts to tap his card to pay, it doesn’t register the card’s chip and off camera, a voice makes a joke.

“You’re currently unemployed, so your card doesn’t work sir. Sorry,” the unidentified voice said in the clip.

Butler seemed to eventually get the payment to work when he inserted the card into the payment device.

Butler has requested out of Miami and the Heat declared that they are open for business when it came to finding a deal for Butler.

He had been suspended earlier this month and then was hit with a two-game suspension after he had missed a team flight to Milwaukee.

The most recent suspension — which the team has called “indefinite” — came after he reportedly walked out of a team shootaround following being informed that he wouldn’t be in the starting lineup going forward.

The deadline to find a deal is quickly approaching with the NBA’s trade deadline set for Feb. 6.

Multiple teams have been putting together potential trade packages, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, which includes the Warriors, Bucks and Grizzlies.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the Heat had been coming down on their asking price in order to try and make a deal happen.

Butler has averaged 17.0 points — the lowest he’s averaged since the 2013-14 season — along with 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
