Deion Sanders has his quarterback of the future — assuming he stays at Colorado.
The program landed a commitment from top 2025 quarterback prospect Julian “JuJu” Lewis on Thursday, four days after he decommitted from USC.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to get to work and compete,” Lewis told ESPN. “Colorado wasn’t recruiting me until I reclassed, so it really was perfect timing. This is only the beginning. I trust Coach Prime and [offensive coordinator Pat] Shurmur to help me become the player that I want to be.”
Lewis, the No. 2 overall prospect in ESPN’s rankings behind fellow quarterback and LSU commit Bryce Underwood, is expected to make it official with the Buffaloes when the early signing period opens on Dec. 4, per ESPN.
He was initially in the class of 2026 but reclassified last year.
The Carrollton, Ga. native is one of the top gets ever for Colorado and gives Sanders a succession plan after his son, Shedeur, departs for the pros, as he’s expected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The big question is whether Deion will be sticking around. He has been linked to a move to the NFL along with his son, but he has said he enjoys life in Boulder.
Sanders’ former teammate, Michael Irvin, said this week on Colin Cowherd’s show that Deion would “100 percent” go to the Cowboys if they drafted Shedeur; Dallas’ current coach, Mike McCarthy, is not under contract beyond this season and seems unlikely to be brought back with the team at 3-7.
“And I can tell you, good sources have told me that. Great sources have told me that! That’s all I can say about that without violating anything else,” Irvin said.
The Cowboys just gave quarterback Dak Prescott a record four-year, $240 million contract in September.
